Birds stir up deserted Gao Giong Eco-Tourism Park

Lying within the flooded Dong Thap Muoi area in Cao Lanh District, Dong Thap Province, Gao Giong Eco-Tourism Park has become a popular destination for both domestic and foreign tourists to relax and enjoy meandering sampan cruises through the wetlands. The environment is an example of the region’s mangrove lowlands and the park acts as a ‘green lung’ of the Dong Thap Muoi region.

The way to the park is lined by green rice fields dotted with houses and small gardens and alluvial canals. The scenery embraces stillness and a deserted atmosphere.

Entrance to Gao Giong is VN20,000 per person including tea, lotus beans and a video introducing the park.

Before stepping into the Gao Giong bird yard, tourists will be taken to an 18-meter-high tower to catch a panorama of the bird yard and the endless cajuput forest. For another VND8,000, there is a boat cruise through cajuput forest to the bird yard.

The bird sanctuary covers 35 hectares with diversified species including egrets, sparrows, wild ducks and herons, and, especially a some rare species listed in the Red Book.

Tourists are enthralled by the sounds of the birds swinging on cajuput trees or perched on lotus flowers. At dawn and at sunset especially, the melodies are a nice background to the inherent stillness.

Drifting on canals shaded by cajuput trees, contemplating the hundreds of birds singing happy songs and getting lost in the poetic and deserted space, excursionists take home unforgettable memories of the Mekong Delta.

Day 1 :  Ho Chi Minh City- Gao Giong - Sadec – Can Tho (B,L)

Leave HCM city to Cao Lanh, according to National Highway 1A, stop at My Tho for breakfast. To Cao Lanh, Take small boat to Gao Giong eco- tourism, visitors sit on canoe to fragrant lotus pond, in mangrove forests where the birds, heron, herring, diet, cong cong, le le… focus on foraging and nesting,  located in the broad nature of 1640 ha of Dong Thap Muoi. Have lunch in an idyllic quiet, with the wings, flying in the distance, enjoy special dishes such as steamed snails with draff, grilled snakehead fish lotus leaf, shredded chicken milling, the boiled vegetables and fried catfish served with ginger sauce…      

After lunch at Gao Giong tourism, depart for Sa Dec town will appear like a little Venice with numerous narrow canals. You will disembark at the local market place for a guided visit of this charming town, walking along its narrow streets where beautiful French old houses and Chinese temples dating from the last century are numerous. Visit the Ancient House , This is a house shot in a very famous movie called “ The Lovers “, based on a true love story of Mr. Huynh Thuy Le, a rich Vietnamese-Chinese gentleman and Ms. Marguerite Duras.

Back to our car , you will  drive direct to Can Tho , overnight in Can Tho

Day 2: Can Tho - Cai Rang - Saigon ( B,L)

After breakfast , leave your hotel to the ferry , where you get into boat cruis to visit Cai Rang floating market actually still the largest in the whole Mekong delta. We will pass by countless sampan boats carrying sand, rice, fruits and vegetables, fish, flowers… showing an intense activity on the river.Your cruise journey will end at around 10.am at Ninh Kieu pier after a visit at Can Tho local market. End of the cruise and services. Driving back to Saigon City.
